With OS X 10.7 "Lion" the chess game now seems to be an integral part of the system. The screenshot says: The object "Chess" cannot be modified or deleted because it is required by Mac OS X.

Ich habe das Schach mit CleanMyMac eliminiert. Man kann sich ihm also entledigen wenn man möchte ;) Schönes Wochenende allerseits

Möglicherweise sind die mathematischen Algorithmen des Schachprogramms für das betriebssystem notwendig? Schau doch mal im Menü nach, ob der Eintrag "Ausschalten" ersetzt wurde durch "König umwerfen". Und was passiert bei einem Absturz? Steht dann da "Schachmatt"?

Ich denke auch dass das Schachprogramm elementare Systemfunktionen enthält. Der Eintrag "Ausschalten" heißt nachwievor "Ausschalten". Der Befehl wird intern aber sicherlich auf "König umwerfen" oder "Schachbrett wütend in die Ecke werfen" gemappt.

Idk what the other comments say, but in Get Info for the chess app, if you change the permission to allow yourself read and write, you can delete it.

Sheryl is correct, but the same is true for many more critical parts of the OS, so there's a very, very, very slight chance that a Software Update may fail if it expects to find Chess where it's supposed to be. Given that it's a tiny program and not the time-sink that Solitaire is on Windows, I don't see the harm in letting it be.

(BTW: I'm NOT a fan of this behavior BTW: All applications in the Applications folder and don't you dare touch them etc. etc. -- but it seems to be the route we (Apple) are on.)
